Breakthrough in Pancreatic Cancer Therapy ~ President Wen-Hwa Lee Led a Taiwan Genomic Research Team to Develop IL—17RB Antibody to Block Metastasis of Pancreatic Cancer

A major breakthrough has been made in genomic research on pancreatic cancer therapy in Taiwan. President Wen-Hwa Lee of China Medical University, an Academician of Academia Sinica, led a genomic research team to successfully develop an antibody against IL-17RB on the surface of pancreatic cancer cells and established that this antibody is capable of blocking metastasis of pancreatic cancer. This breakthrough will facilitate the development of new therapeutic strategies for treating pancreatic cancer. Academician Lee was pleased to release the good news about this innovative research accomplishment which raises hope for cancer patients to receive more effective treatment. President Lee looks forward to speedy development of new therapy based on his team’s research breakthrough which was published online in advance in Journal of Experimental Medicine, a landmark specialty journal of 120-year history and of high impact. This research achievement enlightens scientific research and clinical medicine in Taiwan on the world stage. (Please refer to Appendix 1 for the news release in English)

Dr. Joel Baseman, recipient of Emmy Klieneberger-Nobel Outstanding Career Research Award, is a close friend and colleague of President Wen-Hwa Lee when he was at University of Texas, San Antonio.  Dr. Baseman was invited to give a lecture entitled “Newly Discovered Toxin May Cause Lung Inflammation, Contribute to Asthma & Other Lung Diseases”, building a bridge for future collaboration on teaching and research between the two universities.
