Success in Developing a New Drug for Brain Cancer ~ Superintendent Shinn-Zong Lin of China Medical University Beigan Hospital Received the 11th National Innovation Award

A research team led by Superintendent Shinn-Zong Lin of China Medical University Beigan Hospital has successfully developed a new drug for target therapy of malignant brain tumor with increased efficacy and substantial reduction of side effects. This innovative therapy is built in HK-001-Wafer for slow release to eradicate remaining cancer cells following surgical removal of the brain cancer for extending survival time. The 11th National Innovation Award was presented to Superintendent Lin by Speaker Jing-Ping Wang of the Legislative Yuan in an award ceremony which was open to the public on December 9, 2014.


A Research Giant in Generation on Cancer Genetics ~ President Wen-Hwa Lee of China Medical University was elected to the stature of Fellow of the National Association of Innovators (NAI)

A world-renowned cancer researcher, President Wen-Hwa Lee was recognized for his distinguished career in studying genetic mechanism of carcinogenesis. President Lee leads the field by discovering the first tumor suppressor gene, RB, which has revolutionized the concept of carcinogenesis and opened a novel approach with brighter hope for cancer therapy. President Lee’s outstanding accomplishments and contributions to the field have been highly recognized with esteemed appraisal. President Lee is the first university president in Taiwan to receive this honor of NAI Fellow, which affirms his distinguished research achievements and brings to China Medical University the pride and joy that are cheerfully shared by faculty, students and alumni.


Acupuncture in Traditional Chinese Medicine Stepping onto the Evidence-based Medicine World Platform ~ Chair Professor Jaung-Geng Lin of China Medical University Invited for UNESCO Lectureship with Appointment as an Expert Scholar and Advisor

Chair Professor Jaung-Geng Lin of China Medical University was invited by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to deliver a lecture in the 9th Conference on Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage as a UNESCO Advisor and a World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies
(WFCNS) Expert Scholar on November 24 – 28 in Paris. The title of Prof. Lin’s lecture was “Acupuncture, Evidence-based Medicine Roles in Facilitating Human Health”. Prof. Lin’s lecture focused on contributions of acupuncture to human health in evidence-based medicine as well as traditional Chinese medicine. Prof. Lin was the very first scholar from Taiwan, since its departure from the United Nations in 1971, to be invited to attend the UNESCO Conference. On this occasion, Prof. Lin has promoted evidence-based acupuncture in traditional Chinese medicine to the world stage with inspiring impact among colleagues in the field.


Davallia formosana Established as the Only 3rd-Class Health Supplement ~Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan Visited China Medical Univeristy for Agriculture R&D Industrialization Accomplishments in Collaboration with Jen Li Biotech Co Ltd

A China Medical University R&D team has had brilliant achievement in academia-industry cooperation to derive from domestic botanicals for the development of Davallia formosana which has received Ministry of Health and Welfare approval as a registered health food (MOHW #260 Health Food Permit). This is first Class 3 health food approved by MOHW for promoting bone health. On December 6, 2014, a Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan/Agriculture Technology Research Institute team visited Jen Li Biotech Co Ltd to appraise the outstanding accomplishment in the industrialization of an agriculture technology R&D product at China Medical University. More than 100 from the biotech industry and news media expressed their interest and enthusiasm in learning local achievements in promoting agriculture technology at China Medical University. There were endless questions and photo prompts, reflecting a fulfilling visit.


The New Era of Nutrition Team, Representing China Medical University Department of Nutrition, Achieved the Top Rank in a Health Promotion Administration, Ministry of Health and Welfare Program to Provide Guidance in Weight Reduction

The New Era of Nutrition Team, led by Associate Professor Hui-Ting Yang of China Medical University (CMU) Department of Nutrition, assisted dietary industry with enthusiasm in labeling calorie counts, promoting label recognition of low-salt restaurants, holding calorie-labeling and low-salt diets lectures, training cooks for preparing low-salt diets in health education programs with outstanding performance in health promotion activities. This CMU team ranked #1 among the Health Promotion Administration, Ministry of Health and Welfare teams joining the program for guidance in weight reduction and was presented the Award by Director General Shu-Ti Chiou of the Health Promotion Administration, Ministry of Health and Welfare, at a ceremony held at the International Conference Center in Taipei on December 26, 2014.


Good News for People Dining Out ~ China Medical University Restaurant for Faculty, Students and Staff is the First in Central Taiwan to Provide Calorie-Matching Tables

To guard faculty members, staff and students on calorie counts, the China Medical China Medical University Restaurant for Faculty, Students and Staff initiated labeling of calorie counts with matching tables to provide an extra step of calorie-watching for faculty members, staff and students who dine out. This is the first restaurant in central Taiwan which serves with calorie count labels, reminding faculty members, staff and students to raise their awareness of nutrition sense for healthier dining with good nutrition.
