World-class alliance between China Medical University Healthcare System and MD Anderson Cancer Center

Prof. Chang-Hai Tsai, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, China Medical University and Healthcare System, signed the second 5-year collaboration agreement with President Ronald DePinho of MD Anderson Cancer Center. Chairman Tsai stated in the signing ceremony that this cross-country collaboration has made excellent progress, propelling China Medical University Healthcare System to a leading institution in cancer therapy with well defined objectives to advance cancer prevention, research and therapy to the world-class level for better quality of health and life in Taiwan.


The first Addiction Research and Risk Assessment Center in the nation is established at China Medical University Hospital

The nation’s first Addiction Research and Risk Assessment Center held its opening ceremony on November 4, 2013 at China Medical University Hospital. During the ceremony, Prof. Jong-Tsun Huang, China Medical University President, gave his high expectation for this Center to exploit its expertise in monitoring newly emerged substances of abuse and in providing effective alerting mechanisms to prevent and manage substance abuse, extending the services from the hospital to the society and families in fulfilling the social responsibilities of China Medical University Hospital.

Professor Walter Chen, Department of Pediatrics, China Medical University, won Taiwan Pediatrics Society High-Citation Paper Award with data adopted as official reference standards on growth curve

A research article on children and adolescent body weight, height, and body-mass index (BMI) as the growth and development reference standards published by Professor Walter Chen, Department of Pediatrics, China Medical University, has been recognized by Taiwan Pediatrics Society with the High-Citation Paper Award in the Society Annual Meeting on November 11, 2013. Prof. Chen received a cash award of NT 10,000 and an Award certificate. This scientific paper is important on children and adolescent nutrition in relation to gastrointestinal diseases. It is also an essential tool for the diagnosis and treatment of endocrine and metabolic disorders. This paper provides reference standards of high impact with steady increase in citations by biomedical research articles.


GoodNutri, a platform for nutritional guidance on cooking oil safety has been established at China Medical University

In view of a series of food safety disasters including those involving cooking oil, China Medical University has implemented GoodNutri, in alliance with BluePacket Communications Co., Ltd. to address public concerns of food safety. GoodNutri offers free consultation on cooking oil with dieticians on line to answer calls, aiming to assist the public in maintaining good health based on safe food.


Papua New Guinea Ambassador to Japan came to China Medical University to extend gratitude to Prof. Jaung-Geng Lin, a world-leading expert on acupuncture

Prof. Jaung-Geng Lin, a legendary acupuncture expert at College of Chinese Medicine, China Medical University, has been invited to The Independent State of Papua New Guinea to treat its founding father, Rt Hon Sin Michael Sumare, with satisfactory outcome. Prof. Lin has been popular and highly respected by people in Papua New Guinea. Gabriel J.K.Dusava CBE, Papua New Guinea Ambassador to Japan, paid a special visit to Prof. Lin on November 12 to extend sincere gratitude on behalf of his country’s founding father. Ambassador Dusava looks forward to further advancing exchange programs between Taiwan and Papua New Guinea with Prof. Lin’s team providing knowledge and technology on traditional Chinese medicine.


Beijing University team visited China Medical University for academic exchange

A Beijing University team of 15 visited China Medical University through an arrangement made by the CEO Kuo-Chou Lai of Ten Outstanding Young Persons Foundation on November 18 for academic exchange. Prof. Hongjun Yu, the team leader and the Vice Chair of the University Affairs Committee at Beijing University praised China Medical University for its advances to the world-class level, expertise on hospital management and accomplishments in social services. Prof. Yu looks forward to developing collaboration between the 2 universities for sharing experiences.


Xiamen City Department of Health Team visited China Medical University and Healthcare System for academic exchange

China Medica University has been making progress in international exchange programs. Director SYY Yang of Xiamen City Department of Health, who is also Vice Dean, Xiamen University College of Medicine, led a team to visit China Medical University and Healthcare System for academic exchange. Vice President Walter Chen led a China Medical University team to welcome the Xiamen team. Director Yang noted that China Medical University places its priority on cultivating future generation of scientists and has made excellent accomplishments in modernizing traditional Chinese medicine based on a solid foundation. Director Yang looks forward to developing collaboration between China Medical University and Xiamen University building upon concrete research topics.


Mint Bar, how cool! – A visit to Chien Min Pharmaceutical Industrial Co., Ltd

Mint Bar, how cool! Mint bar, popular in 1960 to 1970, has been out of production. Chairman YS Lin of Chien Min Pharmaceutical Industrial Co., Ltd., a manufacturer and distributor of mint bars, welcomed a China Medical University team led by Prof. Jin-Bin Wu, R&D Dean of China Medical University. Chairman Lin remarked with regret that his company was slow in renovation and failed to catch the world trend. He hopes that China Medical University can provide its expertise and technology to infuse R&D rigor to revive his company.
